I buy regularly from TaoBao because everything is so cheap there, but this is the first time I’m doing a haul on this blog. If you’ve never bought from TaoBao and want to know how, be sure to check out my guide.
Shipping with Hong Xun
The items for this haul were shipped with the Chinese forwarder Hong Xun by sea because this is the cheapest option for bulky items and we had a few of them. I’ll be posting the links to the items below and will also include photos of some of them.
There’s a minimum of 1 cubic meter when shipping by sea with Hong Xun. If your items are below 1 cubic meter, you’ll be charged (550RMB /around 110SGD) for 1 cubic meter anyway. We thought the items would exceed the minimum but it didn’t (should have bought more!). Our total shipping costs from China to Singapore was $140 including GST for the goods we bought.
We got this metal shelf for that weird area in our HDB kitchen that’s too small to put a fridge in. Please ignore all the random stuff that’s on it!
The shelf has five racks and is only 99RMB from this seller (it goes for double the price on Qoo10 Singapore!) It came unassembled in a much smaller box and we were able to put it together pretty easily.
This is for our service yard. We got it from this seller for 130.96RMB. This also came unassembled so we had to put it together ourselves. It had an awful smell which made putting it together almost unbearable (the assembly itself was easy but the smell… @_@)
A friend told me Chinese furniture is sprayed with lots of chemicals (anti-mold?) and people in China usually buy their furniture a few months before moving in so they can let all the weird smell/chemicals evaporate first.
Long storage chair
The long storage chair was the bulkiest item since it came fully-assembled. If you have a lot of random stuff lying around in your house like we do, you can dump them all in this chair. It’s pretty sturdy and looked exactly as shown in the TaoBao listing’s photos. It costs about 204+ RMB total from this seller. However, this took up the bulk of the shipment so its a little more expensive if you add in the shipping charges to Singapore. Still a bargain compared to local prices though!
I love this clock
Some Other TaoBao Stuff We Bought
- Adhesive whiteboard + coloured markers
- Adhesive noticeboard / corkboard
- Lots of cheap socks at 1.99 RMB and quality as good as the ones you find in SG
- Ankle socks at 2.50 RMB, also great quality
- Humidifier for only 69RMB, works great
- 139RMB vacuum cleaner that works great
- Bug net for window at 6.99 RMB each
Overall, I was pretty happy with this shipment and the way Hong Xun packed our things. The stuff we got were also really inexpensive compared to what you’d have to spend if you got them locally.
Leave a message below and I’ll get back to you soon!
